Donghae Weekend aka FLY FISH BEACH ADVENTURE

So this post is a liiiiiiittle stale by now, but 2 weekends ago we went to Donghae for a weekend of relaxation and fun. We were told not to study, not to do work, and just enjoy ourselves. We had a day of programmed activity, a day of freedom, and a day of driving back with historical stops. Basically, it was a blast. Thank you Mrs. Shim for that lovely opportunity.

So, now, Donghae weekend, a photo adventure:
Korean bus stops have really good, really cheap food. I got a huuuge tub of Dokkboki (떡볶이) for about 2 dollars. These are spicy Korean rice cakes. They ones at the bus stop were actually less spicy than my mom's, but still had quite a kick. If you are reading this mom, yours are great too! The ones here are delicious though.
Duckling children. When schools go on trips, they all wear matching shirts and are little ducklings!

This is the feast that awaited is. Bibimbap (비빔) and Scallion pancake (파전)
. So freakin' good. Much better than our cafeteria food.

My friend Cait and her bibimbap.
Yeah. That's a sock monkey on a horse. We take pictures of the strangest things sometimes.
This is our RA 지해. She is adorable and might be my favorite person. She was our roommate for the trip. My other roommate was Christina Wong. This floor was our room for the weekend.
And this was a bed. Note: We got 2 of those white things and one mat for 3 people. Therefore, the mat was shared between us all and one person didn't get the bigger mattress like thing. Also, 2 pillows. Yeah...good night rest?
Fulbright Tshirts come in a wide variety of colors! I believe this is all of them.
We traveled a short distance to a Buddhist temple. This is the stream on the walk up. This walk made me so homesick cause it looks exactly like VT.
Well, it looks exactly like VT except for the pavilions around.
Of course, I did not hesitate to play in the water. The next day, we came back and hiked here. I got to swim in the same pools. Also, laying on rock side and reading some Game of Thrones on a kindle is priceless. There was even a point that I was half in the water reading some GOTs. Amazing.
This is our other RA Jimmy. Jimmy is a blast. Also, he rocks the pink fulbright Tshirt.
 Yeah....pretty view.

This is Anthony. He is the Fulbright coordinator. He is in charge of basically everything for now. At least until Andrew takes over. Catchin' some rays, soaking up the sun.
Bridge shot! That is about all 80 of us. Maybe 70.
Fighting!
The original bridge crew.
The entrance to the temple.
My other roommate for the adventure. At least, she was....
The inside of the temple portion.
We got a really cool back story of what these drums meant and everything. And then some volunteers got to try them. This is my friend Cait.
And here's Sarah ringing the bell.
 All 80 of us....about.
This is my artsy shot. It's dedicated to Susan Wing.
There were dragonflies everywhere! Strangely enough, they were also super friendly. One sat on my arm for like 15 minutes. Another sat on my face.
Bears native to Korea. Apparently, they look more ridiculous in real life.
This was an advert for a scary something. I really like the ominous Samora there. That creep ass girl. Oh, and of course, this was on a woman's bathroom.
And this was the sign for the bathroom. Is that Samora pre-death???
First night in Donghae. We went to the beach that was literally a 2 minute walk from our hotel. Our super responsible RA lit fireworks from his hands. Oh, because in Korea, you can buy fireworks in a convenience store.
Some more ETAs following Jimmy's lead.

Disclaimer: I was not a part of this. I was playing in the ocean behind them.

Day two Donghae: going for a hike to a water fall. So pretty. It also still reminds me of VT.
Yes, I did go hiking with my purse.
 D'awww rooomie shot.
After a hike, where better to go than a beach. And this thing? This is a flyfish. For about 17,000 won/17 dollars, we got to ride this. It attached to a boat, and dragged us everywhere. So much fun. The pictures are thanks to Sarah.

Cait and I were both very pleased with our decision. Also, for Aleah McGraw, if you are reading this, yes those are my booty shorts. Yes, you can swim in them in Korea. Outside of Jungwon, I think you could even wear them.
 Yeah....
 PAPINSU!

Last day in Donghae. We went to some traditional houses and a museum.

Our final meal. Yeah, coming to Korea was a good choice. The food was fantastic.
The ride back. Did I mention that every rest stop (that I've been to) also has rows of massage chairs?
And yes, twins drinking from the same cup. This was the best way to end the Donghae adventure.
