Over winter break, I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Vietnam. I traveled from South to North, starting in Saigon and making my way up to Hanoi. Here are the pictures of the first part of my trip, Saigon. Saigon was a bustling, fantastic city. Even in January, it was steaming hot. The streets were full of both tourists and locals, but above all, motorbikes! Apparently the person to motorbike ratio is 2:1. Crossing the streets was more like playing a game of frogger. Go, walk next to each other in a line, and slowly advance. Hope that the drivers will go around you.
Saigon was immense fun and I hope the pictures are as fun for you to see :)
Some impromtu roadside tree maintenance. There were no warnings and very few safety measures. Just some basic heavy machinery on a crowded street.
The beautiful river in Saigon with some communist propaganda billboards on the back. Oh, next to the advertisement billboards.
People in Vietnam overload their bikes with everything. Here is bicycle converted into a basket carrier in front of the Opera Hall.
The Cathedral that stands in the middle of Saigon.
The shockingly colorful Post Office
The Reunification Palace of Saigon. This was as close as I got.
Here is an example of a tunnel entrance. The soldiers would be well trained to enter quickly and hide the entrance after.

And here is an American trying them out:

This is the first among many pictures to come about Vietnam. Look for more updates soon!

Some delicious rice paper street food. They fry the rice paper gently, put on margarine, green peppers, and fish powder. Then, you fold it and half and eat. I'm probably missing like 10 ingredients.
The Cu-Chi Tunnels
During the Vietnam War, there were a series of tunnels outside of Saigon. Vietnamese workers would stay here and create traps for American troops who got too close. The troops would live underground in the tunnels, making them virtually impossible to find.
Here is a trap for American troops coming by parachute. They would land on the trap door...and find spikes instead!
